Best vintage shirts for women 2023

Updated: Jun 6, 2023

Now, when it comes to vintage, there is a certain capsule collection you most definitely work towards in terms of versatility and wearability of your wardrobes. A great vintage shirt is like a great friend, you can go for weeks without seeing them, months even, but when you do it's just as great as it was before, and the time before that, and so on.

Shirts are a fundamental part of layering if you're not wearing a dress, jumpsuit or basic tee and go under or over just about anything. One of my favourite parts of a shirt are the collars, be it mega 70s dagger collar, mandarin or a ditsy peter pan style, they all have their very own special role in your look. The majority of what I've found are 70s because I'm very much in a relationship with dagger and beagle collars.

These are my favourite 10 available to snap up right now:

70S PURE SILK PAISLEY PRINT PUSSY BOW BLOUSE AT HONEYROAR VINTAGE

£30 SIZE 12

This shirt is giving me pure William Morris vibes and the pussybow will make a lovely accessory over a cute tank or cardigan for autumn. The silk is a beautiful fabric against the skin and will be airy enough for spring and summer too. Looks to be a size 12ish but check measurements.

VINTAGE WHITE COTTON BLOUSE AT MEDLEY VINTAGE

£28 SIZE 20-22

Boasting a 48" bust in the crispest white cotton, the detailing on the collar and sleeves on this shirt is just stunning. Don't forget anything button down can be worn as a light jacket too. I would love to see this over a romantic dress with a shearling or quilted waistcoat over the top for ultimate layering goals.

1970S RED DAGGER COLLAR SHIRT AT FREE SISTA

£22 SIZE 12

Now this is the sort of piece that will have you coming back for more time and time again and always have a great time. Ideally, you'd have one of these in every colour but I think a punchy red is an amazing place to start. Chest is up to 38" so roughly a size 12ish.

70S CHECKED DAGGER COLLAR SHIRT AT STRONG SECONDS VINTAGE

£28 SIZE 10

I'm loving the subtle pop of colour here against the denim blue and that collar is pretty spectacular. A statement alone or layered under a pinafore dress or with a tulle skirt and chunky trainers would be my go to!

SIMON ELLIS GOLD LABEL PEPLUM SHIRT BY FINDS BY FOXES

£45 SIZE 16

There are certain labels I really keep an eye out for, and Simon Ellis is one of those. Everything i've ever come across is exceptionally bold, bright, beautiful and extremely well made. The linings, fastenings and details are always gorgeous, and this shirt is no exception.

PATTERNED TUNIC TOP BY VINTAGE INCLINED

£32 SIZE 8

This shirt is FABULOUS and the mandarin collar really makes it something special. The print is giving me Marimekko vibes and I love the darts along the bust line too. Imagine with a white suit OR block colour trousers in any of the colours!

90s SATSUMA ORANGE SILK SHIRT BY FUSSY VINTAGE

SIZE 12-14 £20

I adore this bright one with it's cute metal buttons, pocket and it's silk too!! WIN WIN

I'd love to pair this with a beautiful 3 piece suit, under a corset/bralet OR with some chunky jewellery.

1970s COTTON BLOUSE WITH LACE UP FRONT BY SECOND HAND ROSE VINTAGE

Ok, this is giving me Austin Powers and Maid Marion vibes at the same time, and I'm not mad about it! The lace up detailing is divine and the print in crisp cotton is perfect. I would don with my leopard print flares but it could be romantic too!

1970S SKY BLUE WESTERN SHIRT BY ASHWELL & CO

£45 SIZE 10/12

Howdy cowbabes! This beauty has the collar, embroidery and piping that really speaks for itself. I love it paired with denim as seen but would also love to see paired with a tulle skirt and cowboy boots!

SILK PUSSYBOW SHIRT BY PEONY VINTAGE

£40 SIZE 10/12

This caramel swirl 1970s shirt is so gorgeous and can be teamed up with brights as I've styled and shot here, or pared back with different tones within the shirt itself. The pussybow is a gorgeous detail and it's Gucci/Pucci personified!
